Went here 2 times during 5 day stay in Hoi An. It is for local folks, so open very early if you are a morning person. Pho broth is on clear side with good flavor. The pickled garlic can add extra flavor with some sourness to it.
I was excited to try this local favorite. I ordered the Dac Biet as I usually do at any new spot. There wasn’t much meat, but it was 45k after all. First Dac Biet ever with only 2 types of meat, rare and brisket. Unique broth flavor but too far off for my taste. Too many non traditional veggies and even peanuts and sesame? I can’t recommend unless you’re looking for a unique pho experience.
This place was a slightly confusing to find but not too bad. We came here for breakfast one morning before our flight in the afternoon, and I’m glad we did! It wasn’t too crowded in the morning and we were the only foreigners; everyone else was local. They barely spoke English, but that didn’t matter as hand gestures and pointing to the menu was equally acceptable. This was a lovely experience, as it really is like eating in someone’s house in their front yard. Open space and lots of room and seating. The lady even showed us the proper way to mix the veggies/condiments for pho.
Lovely atmosphere and people, the pho was delicious. The lenders explained how to eat the food and what to add in from the sauces. I went there twice becuase it was good 👍
They do an excellent pho, slighter sweeter than Pho Suong in Hanoi where the flavours were enhanced with a good balance of peanut and coriander (beef standard VND30,000 NZD2, beef special VND40,000 NZD2.70). The restaurant was clean and the staff friendly, taking special care when preparing our pho, and then demonstrating that the salad should be taken separately, not dumped into the broth. The broth itself was rich but delicate, with expertly balanced sweet, sour and salt.
