This place is a must visit. The market itself is an eye opener. Produce, big variety of seafood and an old school meat market aswell. Plus drystore items. Upstairs is a little food hall with 2 eateries, we went with the one furthermore away from the stairs. Prawns, oysters (WOW GOOD) and squid cakes (EVEN BETTER) plus rice and sauteed spinach and garlic. You select on a plate what you want, then they review and give you price pending weight or by piece then cook it fresh for you. Google translate is widely understood and used here for tourists (as I found all around town) it's translate then open up the calculator and thel lunch out a number for price. A must see if you're coming to town
Lots of tourists. Bright lights and fancy properties. We bought some fab fresh fish and took it back and our hosts allowed us to cook it. Great fun very rick stein.. x
If you visit Cat Ba island, Cat Ba market is the place that should not skip. This is a good place for buying fresh seafood and specialties of Cat Ba. Beside, you could try to experience local food around the market, such as Chè, Bánh đa cua,etc.
Thronging local market, full to the brim with the latest in fresh food from all kinds of seafood to vegetables and fruit, rice and beans. As a tourist I was a little overwhelmed, and would probably not have the need to buy from such a market (eating out is so cheap, and most hotels do not have cooking equipment). But this is the place to be if you are a local sourcing the freshest ingredients for your table!
Nice market with interesting fruits, veggies, sea food, and a section of store bought goods. Was interesting to see and picked up some fruit which was all priced by weight.
