Don Duck Old Quarter Restaurant

It was overall a great dining experience at Don Duck (note they are Michelin recommended) and with aircon and proper sit down tables and chairs, it was a reprieve from the heat of the Hanoi summer. Service was good with their staff patiently asking us if we needed any recommendations and explaining to us which were the popular dishes. His English was great too! In the end we had the duck steak (a lot of effort went into plating the dish!) and the duck spring rolls which was highly recommended by the staff. While both were good, they were not overly spectacular and both my partner and I felt that it was just shy of 5 stars. The duck in the spring rolls was a little dry and the dishes were not totally hot when they were served. Just some minor feedback. It was on the pricey side for dining in Hanoi as well, expect about 125k to 300k per dish. Special note for the steamed white rice: they have the best white rice I had in Hanoi for my trip. In other eateries, the rice was generally dry and on the hard side, with little to no taste. But their white rice was cooked just right and with a distinct aroma of rice. Would still recommend you give it a shot though, the duck steak especially was really tasty and cooked well. The duck taste was not too strong and resembled a beef steak in doneness and colour. Definitely try that and pair it with the mashed potatoes!

Don Duck was really good overall. The food was flavorful and well-cooked, especially the duck, it was tender, juicy, and had really good seasoning. You can really tell it’s their specialty because it’s done properly and not dry at all. Portions were a lot and definitely filling, which is great value for the price. Everything was nicely presented too. The only downside is that the food was not hot when it was served, which took away a bit from the experience, especially the duck. Service was good and staff were attentive without being too pushy. There was a small mix-up with our drinks, we ordered water but were given hot tea instead, but once we asked, the staff quickly took it back and corrected it. We were also a fairly big group, and there weren’t really big tables available since it’s a popular Michelin-star restaurant and it’s usually always full, so seating was a bit tight for us. Overall, still a solid spot if you’re craving duck, and I would still come back again.

A popular spot in Hanoi, especially during mealtimes, so be prepared to put your name on the waiting list. The restaurant itself is quite small, but the food definitely makes it worth the wait. The duck was delicious—tender, flavorful, and very tasty. Even the rice was really good, and the vegetables were surprisingly delicious and paired perfectly with the duck. We also enjoyed the spring rolls! Overall, a great place for a satisfying meal in Hanoi. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in town!

Don Duck was easily one of the best restaurants we have visited in a long time. Every dish felt carefully thought out, and the quality of the duck was exceptional throughout. It is rare to find duck cooked this well across multiple dishes, but they absolutely delivered here. The duck spring rolls were some of the best we have ever had. Perfectly crisp on the outside, packed with flavour, and incredibly moreish. The duck breast steak was cooked beautifully, tender and juicy with a simple but elevated seasoning that let the quality of the meat shine. The grilled duck on the table was another standout. Served sizzling on a hot plate and coated in fragrant spices, every bite was full of flavour. Despite the heat, the duck stayed juicy and succulent without drying out. Service was amazing from start to finish. The staff were friendly, funny and genuinely attentive, which made the whole experience even better. If you are in Hanoi and love duck, this place is an absolute must-visit.

We had a wonderful dinner experience at Don Duck. We weren't able to make a reservation, but thankfully they seated us right away. The dishes we ordered were the duck breast steak, braised duck in galangal, pumpkin and duck salad, and roasted duck and we all loved it! It was our first time trying galangal and it was a very pleasant experience. Duck breast steak and roasted duck were juicy, and the salad was refreshing and flavourful. We also ordered an apple pie for dessert but it didn't taste much like an apple. It was good but kind of mid. Our server, Minh, was very helpful. He explained the dishes to us to set our expectations. He was also very attentive and asked us from time to time about our meal and if we needed anything else. Overall, I recommend trying Don Duck to anyone who wants to taste good quality duck dishes at a reasonable price point and with good customer service.
