Bún Chả Cửa Đông is one of those classic local spots that always seems to be busy, which says a lot about its popularity. The restaurant is quite simple and can get crowded during peak hours, so don’t expect a spotless or modern dining environment. However, people come here for the food, and it definitely delivers. The grilled pork is flavorful, smoky, and well-marinated, while the dipping sauce has a great balance of sweet and savory flavors. Combined with fresh herbs and noodles, it makes for a very satisfying meal. After trying bún chả at many places in Hanoi, I would say this is easily among the top options in the city. If you’re looking for an authentic local dining experience and excellent bún chả, Bún Chả Cửa Đông is absolutely worth a visit.
Not busy at 4 pm on a Friday. The portion size is big. Two people can share one spring roll instead of ordering one for each. Food taste is good, but I haven't had any other bun cha so can't be certain how it compares. I like their tra da though, it's light.
The BEST Bún Chả so far. It was a tiny restaurant full of both locals and tourists. Although it was a bit crowded, no waiting time needed as the food was immediately served. We also ordered Nem Rán and we didn’t expect that it tasted fish or a lot of seafood filling. We liked the Bún Chả more. We also loved the dipping sauce. I must say, this was the dish that truly captured my heart in Hanoi.
Ordered the bun cha here based on a recommendation. Definitely the best I’ve had so far! It cost vnd 75k which is definitely on the pricier side. But I still liked it nonetheless. To me, the best part of the bun cha is the smokiness of the meats and the balance in their bun cha sauce. My only critique would be that the skin of the pork belly is quite tough and chewy. Would definitely come back here if I am in Hanoi though!
Stumbled across this spot while searching for takeaway near our Airbnb — and wow, what a find. Hands down the best bún chả in Hanoi’s Old Quarter. It quickly became our go-to dinner almost every night. Even Aussie icon Luke Nguyen agrees!
